ACNC Registered ChairtyThe Rett Syndrome Association of Australia Inc. (RSAA) is a charity registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profit Commission (ACNC).

Over the years, the RSAA has provided support to parents, siblings and carers; organised and funded State-based family gatherings; and financially supported Rett syndrome-specific research and projects. We have also sponsored Australian researchers to attend overseas Rett syndrome conferences to present their findings and work with the rest of the world to facilitate treatments for Rett syndrome. Locally, RSAA promotes community awareness and facilitates Rett syndrome conferences/workshops.

More recently, the Rett Syndrome Association of Australia has provided funding for Australian clinical research on Rett syndrome, at the Children’s Medical Research Institute Sydney, headed by Professor John Christodoulou, and has assisted in its collaboration with the Maastricht University Medical Centre, The Netherlands, to undertake further development on this research. This included sponsoring one of Professor Christodoulou’s understudies, namely, Nasim Sangani, who has relocated to The Netherlands with samples and data for further analysis and development, under the instruction of Professor Curfs, Director Gouverneur Kremers Centrum, a leading professor in Europe on Rett syndrome.

RSAA is currently working on running clinical trials in Australia with an experimental drug to treat aspects of Rett syndrome and is planning to hold further major conferences on the syndrome in the near future.

Over the years, our Association has relied solely on donations, memberships and parent volunteers, to enable us do what we do for Rett syndrome in Australia. We need the ongoing support from individuals, families, communities and businesses, to enable us to carry on.
